Alienware Beams Down Area-51 Gaming Desktop With GeForce RTX And 2nd Gen Ryzen Threadripper

area 51 2

Alienware's beastly Area-51 gaming desktop is getting a specs upgrade today with the addition of new second-generation AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors. Alienware began using Ryzen Threadripper last year in the Area-51 when AMD’s HEDT processor lineup was initially launched.

This time around, Alienware is providing two additional processor options: the Threadripper 2920X (12 cores, 24 threads) and the Threadripper 2950X (16 cores, 32 threads). For those that prefer to keep the price tag of the Area-51 from ballooning quickly, the first-generation Ryzen Threadripper 1900X (8 cores, 16 threads) is also available. All of the processors find a home on Alienware's custom AMD X399 motherboard which of course support overclocking.

Alienware will let you configured the Area-51 with up to 64GB of quad-channel HyperX DDR4-2933 XMP memory and you have wide range of graphics cards at your disposal including AMD Radeon RX 570X/580X and Radeon Vega 64 GPUs. If NVIDIA GPUs are more your style, you can choose from the full family of previous generation GeForce GTX 10-Series graphics cards or the new GeForce RTX family, including the top dog GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.

When it comes to dual-graphics options, the premiere setup is a pair of GeForce RTX 2080 Ti OC graphics cards. If you prefer a triple-card setup, you'll top out with three Radeon RX 580X GPUs in a CrossFire configuration.

Up to 2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs can be installed, while dual-storage options pair that 2TB SSD with up to a 2TB 7200rpm SATA HDD. On the networking front, you'll find a Dual Killer E2500 GbE NIC along with your choice of either a Dell 1820 802.11ac Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 4.1 or Killer 1535 802.11ac Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 4.1 combo cards.

The new Alienware Area-51 systems are available right now priced from $2,199. And while you're at it, be sure to check out fresh review of both the Ryzen Threadripper 2920X and Threadripper 2970WX.
