Apple Hires Seasoned Sony Pictures TV Execs To Spearhead Original Programming Push

Silicon Valley and Hollywood are joining forces. Apple just hired Sony Pictures Television presidents Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht to help create new original programming. Apple’s most recent additions help to confirm that the corporation is taking serious steps to join the entertainment industry.

Apple’s Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue remarked, “Jamie and Zack are two of the most talented TV executives in the world and have been instrumental in making this the golden age of television. We have exciting plans in store for customers and can’t wait for them to bring their expertise to Apple — there is much more to come.”

Sony just announced yesterday that Van Amburg and Erlicht would be leaving and that their contracts expire this coming August. Van Amburg and Erlicht worked for Sony for fifteen years and will now be working out of Apple’s Los Angeles office. The duo were behind hits like NBC’s “The Blacklist,” ABC’s “The Goldbergs,” AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul”, and Netflix’s “The Crown.” Apple has not revealed what Van Amburg and Erlicht will be up to, however, it is likely that they will bring television shows to the company's various hardware devices. There is even a rumor that they will also be tackling new films.

Apple has so far released rather lackluster content. “Planet of the Apps”, a mashup of “The Voice” and “Shark Tank”, premiered last month. Many have found the show to be boring, disappointing, and even cringe-worthy. Apple promises to release its second show, “Carpool Karaoke”, this August.

Van Amburg added, “Apple has a relentless focus on delighting customers with their products. We will bring that same intention to Apple’s programming and we could not be more excited about what lies ahead.” Many hope that Van Amburg and Erlicht will help to greatly improve the quality of Apple’s programming.
