If you plan on building a PC around a Ryzen 3000 series processor, an X570 motherboard makes the most sense—the upcoming chipset is said to offer PCI Express Gen 4 support and will likely include other goodies not found on the current batch of X470 motherboards. That said, Ryzen 3000 processors will still work in current generation motherboards.

We're essentially looking at top-to-bottom coverage, in terms of features, performance, and presumably pricing. We also anticipate ASUS (and others) offering a mix of standard ATX, Extended ATX ,and micro-ATX motherboards, and potentially mini-ITX as well, as the leaked model names suggest. Specs and pricing will have to wait for another day, though.
As the launch draws closer, there are deals to be had on AMD's current generation Ryzen 2000 series processors. Notably, the Ryzen 7 2700 has dropped all the way down to $219.99. That is the lowest price we have ever seen for this particular processor, and is well below the chip's $299 launch price.
There are other bargains to be had as well. Here's a look at current pricing compared with launch pricing...
All of the above processors come with a bundled air cooler, and specifically a Wraith Prism LED (Ryzen 7 2700X), Wraith Spire LED (Ryzen 7 2700), Wraith Spire (Ryzen 5 2600X), and Wraith Stealth (Ryzen 5 2600).
The Ryzen 7 2700 is arguably the most compelling buy. For $219.99, you're getting an 8-core/16-thread processor that is clocked at 3.2GHz to 4.1GHz, with 16MB of L3 cache. It's a solid foundation for a high-end gaming PC, or any type of workhorse system. Of course, a new round of processors is around the bend. Even so, the sale price on the Ryzen 7 2700 offers a lot of bang for your buck.
