ASUS is looking to appease mobile professionals who might partake in some light gaming on the side with its latest thin and light notebook, the VivoBook Pro N580. While it’s not being aimed at hardcore gamers that crave the ultimate in graphics muscle, the VivoBook Pro N580 has more than enough power to ensure that eSports fanatics will be more than satisfied when they are on the go.
Powering the notebook is a potent Intel Core i7-7700HQ Kaby Lake processor, which is backed by 16GB of DDR4 2400 memory (taking up two DIMM slots). Your window into the gaming world (or productivity tasks) is through a 15.6-inch Full HD touch screen with a 72.57 percent screen-to-body ratio. An NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 GPU (4GB) is responsible for pushing pixels to the display, which would be perfect for extended Overwatch gaming sessions.
Keeping the CPU and GPU cool as an “intelligent” dual-fan system, which has eight different speed levels. The two fans work in tandem, spinning at the same speeds, and operate in conjunction with dual heatpipes to help remove excess heat from your system.
The 4.85-pounds notebook sports a 512GB SSD, but it features an SATA interface instead of the faster PCI NVMe interface. Other features include two USB 2.0, one USB 3.0, one USB 3.1 (Type-C), GbE, and HDMI 1.4 ports. On the wireless front, ASUS has you covered with Bluetooth 4.2 and 802.11ac Wi-Fi (2x2). For web conferencing duties, there is an HD camera up front, and your audio needs are met with Harman Kardon-backed dual speakers.
Other niceties include a backlit keyboard, and a touchpad that incorporates a fingerprint sensor (Windows Hello compatible). The VivoBook Pro N580 also supports the ASUS Pen active stylus, which can be used on the touchscreen with the Windows Ink Workspace (among other apps). The ASUS Pen supports 1024 levels of pressure, but is sold separately.
The ASUS VivoBook Pro N580 is currently available to purchase from Amazon for $1,299.
