DJI's Pint-Sized Osmo Pocket 4K Pocket Camera Leaks Ahead Of Official Launch

DJI, a company that is best known for making powerful drones like the Mavic Air, is gearing up for 'Because LIve Is Big!' press event later today in New York. If the past is any indication, DJI will use the event as a launchpad for a new drone (or multiple new drones). However, it's also expected to unveil a handheld camera called Osmo Pocket.
Images of the upcoming Osmo Pocket have begun surfacing on the web, including pictures of both the camera itself and its accompanying quick start guide. According to the guide, it can capture 12-megapixel photos and record 4K resolution video at 60 frames per second. It also boasts an onboard touchscreen.

"The Osmo Pocket is a handheld gimbal camera that combines mobility and stability in one device. It shoots sharp 12 MP still photos and stable video up to 4Kp60. the onboard touch screen displays a live feed from the camera and can control camera and gimbal movements. A mobile device connects to the DJI Mimo app where professional-quality videos can be created in Story Mode. Intelligent Modes such as ActiveTrack, Panorama, and Timelapse give you everything you need for the perfect shot," the quick start guide states.

This is a feature-packed camera that could give GoPro a run for its money. Among the bits and pieces that make up the Osmo Pocket are tilt, roll, and pan motors, a ventilation area, status LED, shutter/record button, microSD card slot, microphone, a universal port, and USB-C connectivity.
The Osmo Pocket probably isn't going to chew into the DSLR market, but for YouTube streamers and adventurers who don't want to lug around a bigger accessory, this could fit the bill. That said, there are several things that we don't know about the Osmo Pocket yet, like if it's waterproof or otherwise durable. It's also not clear if it has a zoom lens.
Pricing is another question, though according to DroneDJ, it's rumored to sell for $399. That's on par with GoPro's Hero 7 Black, but $100 more than the waterproof Hero 7 Silver, which also records in 4K, albeit at 30 fps.
