Earlier this month, we learned that AMD Senior Marketing Director Chris Hook was leaving his position at AMD. Hook had been with AMD (and formerly, ATI) in various positions for nearly two decades, which is a long time to spend at one company in the tech business.
At the time, we highly suspected that Hook would be taking his talents to Intel. After all, Hook worked closely with Raja Koduri in the Radeon Technologies Group, and Koduri defected to Intel in late 2017 to lead the new Core and Visual Computing Group.
It appears that our supposition was correct, as Hook today confirmed that he is now one of Intel's newest employees. His official duties now include "Discrete Graphics and Visual Technologies Marketing at Intel Corporation."
“As many of you know, it was recently announced that Intel is embarking on a journey to expand its leading position in integrated graphics for PC with high-end discrete graphics solutions for a broad range of computing segments, and will be growing its technology portfolio across computing, graphics, media, imaging and machine intelligence for clients and data centers, AI, and edge computing,” wrote Hook. “That’s a pretty exciting journey, and one I personally want to be part of. So, starting tomorrow, I’ll be assuming a new role in which I’ll be driving the marketing strategy for visual technologies and upcoming discrete graphics products.”
Intel has been hiring some key talent to advances its chip operations on both the graphics and processors fronts. On Thursday, Intel announced that it had hired Jim Keller, who previously headed up Tesla's Autopilot team and oversaw custom low-voltage hardware. At Intel, he is taking on an SVP role overseeing engineering for SoCs.
A recent job listing also revealed that Intel is hiring engineers to work on its next-generation Cedar Cove processor architecture.
