Fortnite Battle Royale Playground Mode Is Arriving Soon: Here's What We Know So Far

Over the weekend, Epic Games sent Fortnite players an in-game message announcing it will soon be launching a new game mode called 'Playground' to "Let your creativity run wild on your own private island!" The upcoming mode will be available for a limited time, perhaps as early as tomorrow, though it's not clear exactly how long it will remain. However, we do know some other details about the Playground mode that Epic Games previous shared.

Firing up Playground will load players into the battle royale map with some adjusted settings. It's a limited time mode (LTM) that could prove immensely popular among new players who want to get their feet wet without jumping straight into the fire.

"Battle and build to your heart's content with an extended period of time to roam around the map as well as increased resource generation. All treasure chests and ammo crates will be spawned, try droppin’ in different spots and scope out the loot. Friendly fire is on so you can scrimmage with your squad (up to 4 friends per match), but fear not you’ll respawn immediately," Epic Games previously stated.

The big difference here is that players in Playground mode will not be surrounded by enemies who are intent on killing them. Instead, players and squads can get a feel for how the game operates, and though friendly fire will be turned on, respawning immediately after being killed is the other big change versus the regular battle royale mode.

This is something that players have been wanting for quite some time now. Not only is it beneficial to new players, it can be helpful for players and squads that want to practice their tactics and building skills before jumping into a battle royale. If the LTM goes well, we could see Epic Games rolling this out as a permanent feature sometime in the future, though nothing along those lines has been announced.

Fortnite is the most popular battle shooter on the planet. Its numbers continue to grow and now is generating more than a quarter billion dollars for the developer every month. Meanwhile, PlayerUnkown's Battlegrounds is seeing its numbers move in the wrong direction—PUBG's player base has been cut in half so far this year.
