Galaxy 10 Preorders Reportedly Far Outpacing Galaxy S9 Family To Samsung's Delight

galaxy s10 family

There’s no question that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ were a big sales disappointment for Samsung. The smartphones launched around this time last year and right out of the gate, sales were lagging behind its predecessors, with at least one report suggesting that Galaxy S9 sales were the lowest of any Galaxy flagship since the 2012-era Galaxy S3.

Fortunately for Samsung, it looks as though last year’s sales slide won’t carry over to 2019. That news comes courtesy of notorious leaker Ice Universe, who claims that during its 24-hour presales period in China, the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ doubled the presale performance of their Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ predecessors. The figures for China are incredibly important as it is the world’s biggest market for new smartphones, and is seen as a litmus test for global sales trends.

In a way, the huge jump in presales should not be toosurprising. The Galaxy S9/S9+ was for the most part a minor improvement over the Galaxy S8/Galaxy S8+, so shoppers either stuck with their existing smartphones or went with cheaper offerings (as witnessed by the rapid rise of Xiaomi and Huawei in smartphone shipments). However, the four-member Galaxy S10 family represents a much bigger upgrade over the outgoing family of smartphones.

Galaxy S10 Plus Displays

All members of the Galaxy S10 family include an incredibly powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC in the Chinese and U.S. markets and support Wireless PowerShare technology (which allows a Galaxy S10 to wireless charge another Qi-compatible device). The Galaxy S10e is the cheapest offering, which features a 5.8-inch (2880x1440) display, dual rear cameras and a fingerprint reader embedded in the power button.

The Galaxy S10 ups the stakes with a 6.1-inch (3040x1440) display, optical fingerprint sensor within the display and a triple-camera setup out back. The Galaxy S10+ brings with it an even larger 6.4-inch (3040x1440) display and adds dual selfie cameras to its Infinity-O display. Finally, there’s the Galaxy S10 5G, which has a massive 6.7-inch display, 5G connectivity courtesy of a Snapdragon X50 modem and a capacious 4500 mAh battery.

The Samsung Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ start at $749.99, $899.99 and $999.99 respectively (you can check out carrier deals here). The Galaxy S10 5G is slated to launch during the first half of 2019, and pricing is TBD at this time.
