Microsoft's Next Major Windows 10 Update Lands In October

We now have a confirmed name and release month for the next major Windows 10 update, which has been testing under the codename "Redstone 5". Microsoft says that that Windows 10 October 2018 Update will land in... well, October. The naming convention shouldn’t come as much of a shock considering that the current public release is called the Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

Microsoft made the announcement today at IFA 2018 alongside a wave of new Windows 10-powered devices like the Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1, Lenovo Yoga Book C930 and Lenovo Yoga C630 WOS (Windows on Snapdragon).

"With this update, we’ll be bringing new features and enhancements to the nearly 700 million devices running Windows 10 that help people make the most of their time," said Microsoft’s Roanne Sones. "We’ll share more details about the update over the coming weeks."

"We’re excited to bring even more experiences and innovation to our customers with the Windows 10 October 2018 Update," added Microsoft Corporate VP Erin Chapple.

Redstone 5 The Windows 10 October 2018 Update brings a number of new features to the table including continual improvements to the Microsoft Edge web browser, more refinements to the Material Design UI language, major updates to Skype and a new viewing mode that takes advantage of a PC's light sensor to detect ambient lighting conditions. There are also new AI-keyboard assist features, HDR controls, the biggest overhaul to Notepad that we've seen in years, an enhanced Windows Application Guard, and Windows Hello biometric authentication for remote desktop sessions.

We're sure to be hearing more about the Windows 10 October 2018 Update in the coming weeks as Microsoft puts the finishing touches on this latest software release.
