Moto Z2 Force Leak Confirms Snapdragon 835, Dual Cameras And 20 Percent Smaller Battery

The cat is out of the bag when it comes to Motorola’s upcoming Moto Z2 Force flagship. Although the smartphone has been leaked previously over the past few months, this latest info dump gives us a clear look at the smartphone front all angles, along with some pretty disappointing news that follows a recent trend with Motorola smartphones.

First and foremost, we have confirmation that the Moto Z2 Force will retain its 5.5-inch QHD display which employs ShatterShield technology. As expected, the smartphone will ditch the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor in favor of the new top-of-the-line Snapdragon 835 which is in use on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and OnePlus 5. On the camera front, the single 21MP camera that graced the rear of the Moto Z Force has been replaced by dual 12MP units on the Moto Z2 Force. Moto Mods support of course continues, and there are some new accessories to add to the mix.

Now is where we start getting to the disappointing news (at least for U.S. customers). While other markets will be able to purchase a Moto Z2 Force with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space, U.S. residents will see only 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Having “only” 64GB of storage it somewhat mitigated by the inclusion of a microSD slot which supports up to 2TB cards.

But perhaps the most frustrating detail to come out this latest Moto Z2 Force leak is that the battery capacity has been slashed by over 20 percent. In an effort to shave another millimeter off the already thin frame, battery capacity has dropped from 3,500 mAh to 2,730 mAh. We don’t think that many people complained about the thickness of the Moto Z Force, so it’s mind boggling that Motorola would stoop to this level on its successor. Motorola made a similar decision with the Moto Z2 Play, trimming its battery from 3,510 mAh to 3,000 mAh.

Motorola has already confirmed that the Moto Z2 Force will be officially announced on July 25th.
