Nintendo Switch Racks Up Impressive Sales Figures As It Approaches 2nd Birthday

Nintendo is doing very well with its Switch console after having a very rough time with the previous generation Wii U. Late last year, the Switch was crowned the fastest selling game console of this generation. With sales going so well for Nintendo, any idea of price cuts or new hardware seem unlikely, something confirmed by Nintendo's President recently. Nintendo has made its latest earnings release public, and in that release, the gaming company confirmed it had sold 32.27 million Switch consoles as of December 31, 2018.

Nintendo moved 9.41 million Switch consoles in Q4 2018 alone. Software sales for Nintendo boomed in Q4 2018 thanks to holiday shopping; for that three month period Nintendo sold 52.51 million software titles. Despite the booming sales, Nintendo has altered its previous forecast for shipping 20 million Switch consoles between April 2018 and March 2019.

Nintendo is now saying it will sell only 17 million units during that period. Details on sales numbers for Nintendo's first-party games were announced in the earnings release. The games and their sales figures are listed in order below.

  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 15.02 million
  2. Super Mario Odyssey: 13.76 million
  3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: 12.08 million
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: 11.68 million
  5. Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee!: 10.00 million

  8. 1-2 Switch: 2.86 million
  9. Mario Tennis Aces: 2.53 million
