Nokia 9 PureView Rocks In-Display Fingerprint Sensor And Android Pie In Leaked Promo Video

Nokia 9 PureView
HMD Global should consider formally introducing its Nokia 9 PureView handset with a Penta-Lens camera system. We know it's coming, you know it's coming, and anyone who pays attention to these things knows it's coming. If anyone has any lingering doubt, though, just check out the latest leak, which is a promotional video highlighting the phone and its features.

The promo video is just over a minute long. It gives a visual tour of the "Nokia 9 PureView with Android One," and one of the first things it brings to attention is the "revolutionary 5 camera design with Zeiss optics."

As we've seen in previous leaks, the Nokia 9 PureView sports seven circular cutouts on the rear of the handset, which collectively take up about a third of the backside. Five of those cutouts house camera sensors, while the remaining two house an LED flash and a proximity sensor.

It remains to be seen how effective this design will be. Throwing more camera sensors into the mix isn't an instant recipe for photographic success, just like bumping up the megapixel count on a camera lens doesn't necessarily mean it will take better photos. Interestingly, it's rumored that HMD Global delayed the launch of the Nokia 9 PureView to 2019 because it wasn't happy with phone's camera performance. So, we'll have to wait and see how things shake out.

According to the promo video, the camera system captures 10 times more light than a "regular smartphone camera color sensor." It also promises "incredible texture and detail" and "stunning crisp HDR photography."

The video also confirms a few other specs beyond the camera system. As was previously rumored, the Nokia 9 PureView sports a 5.99-inch 2K display with HDR support. It also features an in-display fingerprint scanner, thin bezels on the top and bottom (instead of a notch or punch-hole design), and Qi wireless charging.

One of the most interesting confirmations is that the Nokia 9 PureView is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. That was thought to be the case when the phone was initially supposed to ship in 2018, but its push-back to 2019 left us and others wondering if HMD Global would opt for a Snapdragon 855 instead. The phone will also have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage.
