SNES Classic Edition Pre-Orders Go Live And Immediately Sell Out In Typical Nintendo Fashion

If there is one thing you can count on in life, it is that a Nintendo console will sell out almost immediately. The SNES Classic Edition was available for pre-order last night at Walmart, but has already sold out.

The SNES Class Edition was announced this past June and was quickly available for pre-order in the United Kingdom. even banned bulk pre-orders in hopes of preventing the console from immediately selling out. It is unclear why American fans were forced to wait, however, pre-orders were available at Walmart twelve hours ago. Within twenty-five minutes, the page had crashed and users were informed that the item was out of stock. Amazon and Best Buy also have pages for the SNES Classic Edition, however, they have yet to go live.

Nintendo has promised that there will be “significantly more” quantities of the SNES Classic later this year. If the pre-order experience is any indicator, however, it is quite likely that not all interested customers will be able to get their hands on the SNES Classic. Nintendo also recently stated that they are only committed to shipping the console “from Sept. 29 until the end of calendar year 2017”. Nintendo had only originally planned to ship the NES until December 2016, nevertheless, they extended its availability until April 2017. The console was still difficult to acquire and many fans were frustrated that Nintendo ended the production of the NES.

Like the NES Classic, the SNES Classic is a miniaturized version of its “retro” predecessor. The SNES Classic will ship with twenty-one games including Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, and the previously unreleased Star Fox 2. The SNES will include two wired controllers, an HDMI cable, and an USB charging cable/AC adapter. It will officially be available on September 29th from for $79.99 USD at major retailers.
