Western Digital is looking to "Paint it Black" with a new family of WD_Black external storage devices targeted squarely at gamers. With the WD_Black label affixed, you can expect to find excellent performance across-the-board, with the new products including one SSD-based device and four HDD-based devices.

Let's get the super-fast SSD out the way first: the WD_Black P50 Game Drive. This is the first storage device in the industry to support the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port and offers read speeds of up to 2GB/sec. Western Digital says that the P50 Game Drive is available in capacities up to 2TB and comes backed with a 5-year warranty. Pricing has not yet been announced for the P50 Game Drive, but it will be revealed closer to its Q4 shipping window.

Moving on to the HDD-based offerings, we have the P10 Game Drive, with storage capacities that top out at 5TB (enough to store roughly 125 games, assuming average install size of 36GB). The external HDD uses a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface and comes backed with a 3-year warranty. Western Digital is also making available a console-specific version called the P10 Game Drive for Xbox One. It features the same 5TB maximum storage capacity and 3-year warranty, but includes a free two-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in the box.

Prices start at $89.99 for the P10 Game Drive (2TB) and $109.99 for the P10 Game Drive for Xbox One (3TB). Both are shipping in Q3.

The next entry from Western Digital is the D10 Game Drive, which is available in up to 8TB storage capacities, enough to hold around 200 games. Western Digital says that there's a 7200RPM hard drive inside that's good for transfer speeds of up to 250MB/sec. There's also active cooling employed to keep heat output at a minimum, along with a D10 Game Drive for Xbox One variant. This one, however, ups storage capacities to a loftier 12TB (300 games). Western Digital is including a three-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with each purchase of these drives.

Western Digital has priced the D10 Game Drive (8TB) and D10 Game Drive for Xbox One (12GB) at $199.99 and $299.95 respectively. Both will ship later this quarter.
